The cottage has had a recent makeover with some great additions, including a new front deck.

The beach is just a 2 minute stroll away, with beautiful and safe places to swim. Collect shells on the beach, go fishing off the rocks, enjoy a lovely walk, or just 'chill' in the sun.

The Xora river is just below the river/sunset facing deck and a wooden staircase takes you right down to the jetty.

The cottage has four bedrooms:

• Sea view 1: One double bed
• Sea view 2:  One double bed, a double bunk, and a single bed (small lock up safe)
• River view 1: One double bed
• River view 2: One single bed

All bedding and essentials are provided, including bar fridge, kitchen fridge, chest freezer, gas stove, ice machine, kettle and microwave oven, kitchen utensils such as cups, glassware, pots & pans, etc. etc..

Separate bathroom with flush toilet and separate shower with hot water gas geyser. (Gas is included in the rate and is connected up by the house staff when required.)

There are two lounges, a dining room, and large kitchen.

The river facing deck is the main entertainment area with amazing sunset views, built-in braai area, and has a stairway access down to the jetty on the river.

Facilities include a dart board (please bring your own darts ), and two 2-man kayaks for guests use to experience the wonderful Xora River.

The cottage now has solar electricity as well as a generator set.

Staff:
Thelma and Nancy do the house cleaning and will happily make fat cakes (vetkoek) and home made Xhosa bread for you. Please bring your own flour and yeast, etc.. They can also arrange crayfish, fish and mussels as appropriate during season (sea and weather conditions permitting). Thelma and Nancy have both worked at the cottage for over 40 years and are super helpful and completely trustworthy. Tyson is Nancy's son and is available to help with any manual chores that are needed.

As this is their only form of employment we do ask that our guests please treat them well, as they are part of our happy family cottage.

Tyson is able to assist with the key for the boom gate to access the launching-site for boats at the river.

Xora mouth is unique. To say the least.

Rural huts in Coffee Bay with a touch of luxury

We started building our huts in 2008. I am a German doctor married to Alicia, a Xhosa woman from Coffee Bay. We are staying on this and the neighbouring property with our large family. We started hosting a hut via AirBnB since 2014, reviews can be found there. Since 2016 we have got two round huts available for visitors, but we will only have one private group at a time visiting.

The two huts have got a thatched roof, tiles on the floor and electricity. The third hut is for Alicia and me. The main building has got a fully functioning bathroom and kitchen in it. There is an outside shower, the jungle shower, which runs on a water system, which sligthly heats up during sunny days. It is surrounded by banana plants.

We have got a large property of about 70 x 70 meters on a small hill inside a valley with a 360 degree view in the village. We are about 600 meters to the sea, which can be seen from the the hut and the kitchen terrace. It is about 30 minutes and a beautiful walk through the village to reach Coffee Bay main beach. We have got a group of 10 to 15 sheep who do the lawn mowing. I have got a passion for palms, fruit and indigenous trees which slowly grow and can be seen on the property.

Our place is very quiet and usually free of mosquito. Our visitors will stay in their private hut, but will feel like part of our large African family and our village. You will see children preparing and going to school and men ploughing their gardens. You can just sit next to your hut or on the kitchen terrace watching the village or to take small walks. We can organize a guide for you to show you around or to walk with you to Hole in the wall.

Alicia has a passion for cooking. She can prepare meals for you. You can book a local group of girls, doing a traditional dance for you. 

The access road to our hut is very bad and crosses a small stream. It can be only managed by a high clearance car and if rainy only with 4x4. Our visitor usually park next to the main road, which is safe. We will fetch you there.

This much-loved family cottage is situated between the river and the sea at the beautiful Xora (or Xhora) Mouth, mid-Wild Coast. To adventure here is to step way off the beaten track. It’s where kindred spirits pause the busyness and give themselves space to regenerate.

The cottage has been in the Bennett family for close to 50 years. Over the years, it has been transformed from a basic fisherman’s shack to a comfortable home from home for a family or a few couples. But it has never lost its humble beginnings – it is still a real Transkei beach cottage (although, these days, it has electricity and an indoor bathroom).

The cottage has three bedrooms, including a hut, that can accommodate six adults and four children. Each bedroom has a double or queen bed and a few singles and bunk-beds suitable only for children. Linen is supplied, but you will need to bring your own towels.

The kitchen is equipped with a stove, fridge, chest freezer, toaster and kettle. Crockery and cutlery is supplied.

The place:

Xhora Mouth lies between Ntlonyana and Bulungula, just south of Coffee Bay and Hole in the Wall. The cottages (just 12 in total) are wedged between the Xhora River where it loops around an island of mangroves, a beach still lined with milkwood trees, and the mouth of the Xhora River itself.

Here, life ticks along with the river. At low tide, you may see people and even cattle crossing the great sandbars that sweep across the breadth of the river. At high tide, watch the breeze create ripples on the water that swells to cover not just the sand, but also the mangrove swamps. Sometimes, the river is as smooth and calm as glass, reflecting magnificent sunsets. Perhaps you will take a boat up the river and wind between the fields and homesteads that have changed little over the decades. Always, listen for the cry of the fish eagle.

On the beach, wander south towards the cliffs of Nkanya, dipping into the (usually) warm Indian Ocean or a myriad of sparkling rock pools. Or cross the river and wander north along the bay to Bulungula. You’ll have indigenous Nguni cattle – big, gentle creatures – and seabirds for company. Local women and their children may be foraging for food on the rocks, as they have always done. And you’ll be enchanted by the rich shell beds. As a special treat, from June to November, the whales will put on a show for you.

Situated in a quiet cul-de-sac overlooking the Incarha lagoon, Turn-Inn offers you privacy, comfort and relaxation. In addition to our large fully-fenced garden, guests have the use of paddle skis, canoes and children's play area.

There is abundant bird life in the garden and on the lagoon, waking up most mornings to the call of the African Fish Eagle. A private path along the edge of the lagoon leads to the sea approx. 400 metres away.

Accommodation includes a large upstairs lounge / dining room and well-appointed kitchen, leading onto two undercover patios with breathtaking views. Turn Inn can sleep 20 people - A great venue for a family reunion.

Watch the Indian Ocean rollers break at Morgan Bay's secret surf spot where experienced surfers & dolphins compete for the perfect wave.

Situated in a quiet cul de sac, approximately 200m from the water's edge, the Lower Deck sits atop a hill and is blessed with beautiful sea views. To our left lies the Morgan Bay beach and safe swimming lagoon, which are within walking distance (5-10 minutes). To our right, the mighty dolerite cliffs / krantzes of Morgan Bay rise dramatically from the sea and extend 4km along the coastline, to the pristine Double Mouth Nature Reserve and Bead beach where it is thought the Santo Espirito floundered in 1608. One often hears the haunting call of the resident Fish Eagles in this beautiful estuary.

The Lower Deck consists of a self catering, one double bedroom, ground floor, sea view apartment with comfortable open plan area that consists of lounge with Dstv, kitchen and a sleeping area that comfortably sleeps two children under 12 or one teenager. Sliding doors lead from both the bedroom and the lounge onto a wooden deck where you can relax with a book, enjoy meals in the warm summer evenings or stargaze at night.

Sea Shells Guest House is situated in Coffee Bay and offers guests one of four comfortably furnished on suite units either on a self-catering or bed and breakfast basis.

All units lead off from the garden and sleep from three to five people, all bedding and towels are supplied but no beach towels. The communal kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove and oven, microwave, double sink, double door fridge and free standing freezer unit as well as all cookware, plates and cutlery etc.

Sea Shells Guest House is a short walk from the lagoon and main swimming beach. We offer 4 x 4 excursions to places of interest like the Hole-in-the-wall. We offer advice to visiting fishermen.

Large enclosed braai area with tables and chairs as well as portable braai units. Secure parking behind locked gates and security lighting. Large back - up power system to cope with Eskom load shedding. Meals supplied on request.

Dwesa and Cweba are two relatively small reserves, separated by the Mbashe River,  situated in the central Wild Coast.

Accommodation in Cwebe is only available at the Haven Hotel.

The reserves are bordered on the one side by the Indian Ocean and on the other by rugged grasslands of the former Transkei. Both reserves are primarily covered by lowland forest but also support grasslands and acacia scrub. There are a total of 290 bird species recorded in the reserves, with at least a hundred to be found on a given visit. Being relatively under- birded, the number of known birds is ever increasing. Although a day will suffice in each reserve, at least three days is required/recommended to make the trip worthwhile.

The reserves remain relatively undeveloped with only footpaths giving access to the majority of areas. This lack of development means that the birdlife is prolific, with over 290 species recorded here. 

With both reserves being small, most places can be reached on foot. Care should however be taken that you can find your way out of the forests. There are a few trails that can be negotiated by 4x4 to shorten the walks.

Attractions
Although the two reserves are very similar in habitat and vegetation and support many of the same small mammals and birds, Dwesa also contains a number of introduced game species, including red hartebeest, blesbok and blue wildebeest. Crocodiles have been re-introduced to the rivers and buffalo, eland and warthog once again roam the grassland and forest fringes.

Cwebe is a newly established nature reserve, containing a variety of habitats - forest, grassland, mangrove and beach - which support a wide range of birds and small mammals.

The Mbanyana River is an added attraction, with its spectacular waterfalls and beautiful lagoon where Cape Clawless Otters may be observed. The 2149ha reserve is bounded to the south by the Mbashe River and from here a sandy beach, popular with anglers and shell-collectors, stretches northward.

The best forest birding is done around the Mbanyana River causeway. Here one can find Halfcollared Kingfisher, Longtailed Wagtail, Narina Trogon, and Crowned Eagle. This area can be reached by following the 4x4 track running across the reserve; the turn-off to the track is approximately 500m after the gate to the Nature Reserve. The track also winds through some forest clearings, which provide excellent habitat for Broadtailed Warbler and Barratt's Warbler. Following the road past the Haven takes you to some cottages and the mouth of the Mbanyana River. Among the moist grasslands are good places to look for Croaking Cisticola and Wailing Cisticola. The mouth of the Mbashe River plays host to Mangroves, Coastal forest and a small tern Colony.

Cwebe Nature Reserve also has a trail leading to a waterfall in the forest. The trail is well marked and the trip well worth it (ask for directions at the hotel).

The only accommodation currently offered in Cwebe Nature reserve is the Haven Hotel, which is situated about two kilometres from the Mbashe River, a popular spot for anglers. The rooms are all individual chalet style accommodation. 

Note: The reserves are also Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) so fishing is only allowed in demarcated areas.

The Mpande Beach Cottage is situated at Mpande Bay on the Wild Coast on the East Coast of South Africa.

The cottage is situated very close to the beach which is perfect for walks, fishing, bird watching, swimming and even cycling. It is one of only 3 cottages at Mpande Bay.

This unique getaway can accommodate up to 20 people in 4 units.

The main area features a lounge, dining/games room, kitchen, scullery, 3 bedrooms, 1 bathroom (shower, basin & toilet) and an enclosed verandah with 4 beds.

The outside area features 2 en suite wooden chalets, a rondawel, an outside bathroom/shower and a spacious wooden deck(with a shower/bathroom), half of which is under cover.

Legend has it that treasure is buried under the sand dunes at Mazeppa Bay, which derives its name from the ship, the Mazeppa, which ran aground when the captain steered the ship into the bay seeking shelter from a storm.

Of more serious interest, are numerous middens left behind by the prehistoric beachcombers (strandlopers) that used to frequent the area.

Mpame Beach, which is safe for swimming, is directly on the Inn's doorstep with rock angling hotspots within easy walking distance on either side of the bay. The Inn is securely fenced ensuring safety of property and secure parking.

The Inn's entertainment area has DSTV, a dart board and a R2 coin-operated pool table; with the evening braai fire going, background music and lighthearted banter between the guests, what better way to end the day?

The Double Story
The Double Storey has six bedrooms, sleeping up to 17 people. Facilities include 2 showers, 3 toilets and 1 bathroom, a fully equipped kitchen and lounge area with its adjacent balcony presenting splendid views. A minimum of 6 persons is required to book.

The Main House
The Main House with its five bedrooms sleeps up to 14. Facilities include 2 shower rooms with separate toilets, a fully equipped kitchen, spacious lounge.

The Fisherman's Corner
Fisherman's Corner comprises two rustic dormitory-style rooms and sleeps 12. Facilities include a separate shower and toilet as well as a fully equipped kitchen area. There are no sea views from this unit. A minimum of 6 persons is required to book

Meals
Meals take the form of hearty home cooking and are not restricted to a set menu. On rising guests can enjoy coffee, tea, rusks and cereals. A Farmer's Brunch of eggs, bacon and toast served between 10h30 and 11h00 while afternoon tea consists of traditional, vetkoek, sandwiches and savouries on request. Evening seafood snacks are provided depending on the days catch. Dinner is served from approximately 19h00 onwards. The main course would consist of a braai, potjie, roast or the ever-popular seafood evening. Dessert is served every other night.

Our a la carte menu is a fusion of French and Asian cuisine, prepared according to high standards and nicely presented. Overall the restaurant has an aura of understated elegance and sophistication without being overly formal. The prompt, friendly service provided by the hosts adds to the cosy atmosphere, making dinner a relaxed, memorable experience.

The Hideout is located in Coffee Bay and offers a garden, barbecue facilities and a terrace. This holiday home provides free private parking and room service.

Nestled in a valley between the hills of Coffee Bay along the Bomvu river, this pristine 2 ha is a mere 5 minute barefoot walk to one of the most amazing beaches of the Indian Ocean. Although our space is quiet and peaceful, we are very centrally located (walking distance 2-5 minutes) to all the village's bars and eating establishments for festivities and events.

A newly completed, upscale self-catering Tiny Home that is private, safe and secure. Our Tiny Home is tucked among the trees, offering a private deck with a view of the Indian Ocean. The ocean is only 200m from our private gate along the river banks.

The holiday home features a balcony, 1 bedroom, a living room and a well-equipped kitchen with a microwave and a fridge. Towels and bed linen are featured.

The coast between the towns of Port St Johns and Coffee Bay is renowned for many beautiful lagoons, and one of the loveliest of the Wild Coast’s many parks - the Hluleka Nature Reserve.

The beaches are punctuated with extraordinary rocky outcrops shaped into strange bubble formations by the rapid cooling of volcanic lava in millenia past.

In winter the indigenous forest is ablaze with the scarlet blossoms of the coral tree (Erithryna lysistemon), and the hillsides are coloured with aloe-ferox in bright orange bloom.

The reserve itself is a wanderers’ paradise, with dozens of little meandering paths. You could encounter blesbuck, zebra and wildebeest. On the beach you will find the tracks of otter.

The forest is rich in incredible bird- life reverberating through the trees – cape parrot, rare green-billed coucal and knysna turaco sunbirds, canaries, herons, and the jewel in the crown: the fabulous, elusive narina trogon.

You will need a permit to fish in the designated areas and outside the reserve. This permit can be obtained from any Post Office country-wide.

The reserve is situated on the coast of north-eastern Pondoland, in the Eastern Cape. It lies between Port Edward (30 km to the north east) and Port St Johns (59 km to the south west).

It is a 7720-ha coastal reserve with open grasslands, dotted with indigenous forest patches and swamp forests, flanked by the magnificent forested ravines of the Msikaba and Mtentu rivers.

Grasslands cover a large portion of the reserve and support a fascinating and diverse flora.

Large numbers of grazing herbivores such as Eland and Red Hartebeest have been introduced into the grasslands.

Visitors to the Wild Coast will find the scenic Mkambati Nature Reserve one of the highlights of their trip. Situated close to the KwaZulu-Natal border, the reserve's coastline stretches along 10km of rugged, rocky beaches, offering visitors a glimpse of unspoilt nature and wildlife. Attractions

This 7 720 ha coastal reserve consists mostly of open grassland dissected by perenial streams and flanked by the magnificent forested ravines of the Msikaba and Mtentu rivers. Grasslands cover a large portion of the reserve and support a fascinating and diverse flora. Large numbers of grazing herbivores such as Eland, Red Hartebeest, Blue Wildebeest, Blesbuck and even Gemsbok, have been introduced into the grasslands, although only the first two species are indigenous to the area.

Among the birds which may be seen in this habitat are Redshouldered Widow, Yellowthroated Longclaw, Common Waxbill and Croaking Cisticola, with Gurney's Sugarbird and Greater Double Collared Sunbird seeking nectar from the flowering strelitzias. Of the many streams running through the reserve, the Mkambati is perhaps the most beautiful with its crystal clear pools and series of spectacular waterfalls. The Horseshoe Falls are most impressive as they drop down over the terrace in a wide arc, the stream then tumbling over another waterfall before dropping several metres into the ocean.

Breathtaking views of the Msikaba gorge can be obtained by walking through the grassland above the river. At a bend in the gorge, a natural amphitheatre of towering evergreen forest is inhabited by a spectacular variety of birds including Trumpeter Hornbill, Rameron Pigeon and many more.

Visitors wishing to acquaint themselves with this mysterious river can engage in a 2km canoe trip upstream. Along the way they may be rewarded by sights of the feathery-leaved Mkambati palm, the African fish eagle or the crowned eagle. Birdlife in the reserve is prolific.

Apart from canoeing and fishing, there is a variety of trails, one of the most popular being the walk along the Mkambati River to the breathtaking Horseshoe Falls which plunge into the sea far below.

Of historical importance (and tourist interest) are two famous shipwrecks, namely the Sao Bento(1554)- near the mouth of the Msikaba River - and the Grosvenor (1782) lying in Lambasi Bay.
        
Accommodation

Combine the tranquility of a nature reserve with the natural beauty of the Wild Coast beaches. The reserve offers accommodation in cottages, rondavels and a lodge.

Gwegwe has several rondavels, each with en-suite and kitchen facilities; Point Cottage is right on the beach, sleeps around 8 persons and is ideal for a large family or a group of friends, and the Lagoon Lodge can sleep parties of up to 20 persons.

The Mkhambati Nature Reserve has lots to offer the nature tourist. Its long coastline makes for a wide choice of hikes.The large wilderness area can only be traversed on foot. You can self-drive during the day and night to watch the ample game that are featured in the reserve. Fisherman can enjoy fishing at official estuaries.

For larger groups, the Gwe Gwe River Lodge (20 persons) and the Main Lodge (10 persons) offers fantastic settings that one cannot help but enjoy, while smaller groups can find accommodation in the Gwe Gwe Rondavels (2 persons), Point Cottage (4 persons) and the cottages near the reception area.

Climate

The climate at Mkhambathi is mild sub-tropical with a relatively high humidity. The warm Agulhas current provides for minimal differences between minimum and maximum daily temperatures.

Most of the rain falls falling during spring and summer (September to February). On average June is the driest month, and March is the wettest. Strong winds can occur , blowing parallel to the coast. These winds impact significantly on coastal vegetation and on marine recreational activities.

Jeff's Beach Shack is located on a small peninsula directly between the two main beaches, which are literally a stone's throw away on either side.

Fern Cottage is a self-catering unit ideal for couples who require a safe and quiet getaway.

The cottage is situated in a tranquil area of Kei Mouth, just 320 m from the ocean. The cottage was fully renovated in August 2015, with aluminum windows all round, security, extended outside relaxation area and a brand new double bed for those quiet nights listening to the waves in the distance.

The unit comprises of one bedroom fitted with a double bed, all linen and a bathroom with a shower (gas geyser).

The rest of the cottage offers a comfortable lounge area and a fully equipped kitchen for your self-catering purposes and offers gas cooking. There is a private braai area overlooking the lovely bush-veld and safe and secure parking is provided for your peace of mind.

Situated in a quiet cul-de-sac in Morgan's Bay, Ocean Valley View offers you comfortable self catering accommodation with beautiful views of the sea, valley/bush and cliffs, all within very easy walking distance of the sea.

Ocean Valley View Sleeps 8 to 10 people.  The house is situated 200 m from the sea and 600 m from Morgan Bay's beach.

This modern architected 3 bedroom double story house has a spacious open plan setting downstairs leading to a large wooden deck terrace.

The three double bedrooms all have their own balcony from which you can relax and enjoy the scenery. The main bedroom (king size bed) is en-suite equipped with a large oval bath.

The second bedroom has a queen size bed and the third bedroom 4 single beds. These two bedrooms share a separate bathroom with shower.

Benmore Lodge offers 2 bedrooms in each chalet. The main bedroom has a king size or 2 single beds, the second bedroom has two double bunks, each chalet sleeps up to six people. All duvets and linen are supplied. The bedrooms are large and airy with ceiling fans. The dressing table has plug points for hair dryers and cell phone chargers. The bedrooms have built in cupboards with hangers supplied. Feather pillows are available on request. The bathroom has both shower and bath.

The kitchens are fully equipped, including toaster, kettle, microwave and fridge/freezer. All that you need to bring is your food and drinks. The lounge area is large and airy, with sliding doors opening onto a deck with wonderful views of game reserve and Transkei across the river.  

There is a large variety of bird life, and small wildlife on the property. Nearby facilities (5km) include golf (rated one of the best 9-hole courses in South Africa), bowls, squash, horse riding, abseiling, paint ball, fishing, tennis, walks and Hazel Jefferies shell museum. 

Pub and grub and The Shed are on premises (season and on request). The Shed has undercover braai facilities; guests are welcome to use them in rainy weather.The dining area also overlooks the game reserve. Chalets are serviced daily. There is a trading store on the adjoining Benmore Farm which can provide all basic foods, toiletries etc. The trading store also has a huge freezer if you need to store meat, bait etc. Benmore Lodge overlooks the private game reserve and is just 3 km's from beach. 

We offer lovely meals at our pub 'n grub named "The Shed". How to get there:- Situated just 3 km's before Kei Mouth, turn left at Benmore Lodge/The Shed sign at the bottom of the road. Special Features:- Each chalet has braai facilities. Undercover braai facilities at ‘The Shed’, which is 40m (strolling distance) away from the chalets. Mountain View Inn is a centrally located Port St. Johns self-catering accommodation establishment situated in close proximity of majestic Mount Thesiger & the mighty Umzimvubu River.

If you want something more adventurous you may consider going up to the airstrip to take in the gorgeous scenery of the Indian Ocean flowing into the Umzimvubu River, or spend the day at Mpande, Umgazana, First, Second or Third beaches fishing, walking, swimming and hiking.

Silaka Nature Reserve is also worth a visit and your entry point to Third beach - a lovely long open sandy beach which is more private and quieter to visit than the other beaches, especially during peak holiday periods.

Bulolo and Magwa Waterfalls are also a sight to behold as is the Magwa plantation - a local proudly South African tea leaf grower / manufacturer.

For the Daredevils give The Gap & Blowhole a visit -

Water is forced into a narrow gully which ends in a natural chimney-like hole from which the water, at the incoming tide, shoots into the air for about 20 meters. A warning to the venturesome: Do not try to look into the Blow Hole.

Please be careful though, the blow hole is at its best when seas are rough.

Other adventure options include kayaking the river, horse riding trails, enjoying the amazing butterflies and walking the mountains, beaches and cliffs, a cruise on the Bobalong barge along the Umzimvubu River etc.

End your day off with a spectacular sunset and a locally sourced fresh seafood braai or potjie.

The Pondo and Aloe rooms are situated opposite each other and separated by the communal kitchen area which may also be shared by Guests from the Nguni room.

Own kitchenette with small stove/oven, fridge, pots, crockery, cutlery etc.

The Intombi room is a more private standalone unit which is separate from the other 4 rooms and situated on the other side of the Mountain View Inn main property. It is still however in very close proximity of the other units and is less than a 30 second walk away.

ADDITIONAL IMPORTANT INFORMATION -

CHECK IN & CHECK OUT TIMES:

Check in time is strictly between 14h00 and 19h00. Check out time is strictly no later than 10h00 on departure day. This is to enable the room to be prepared in time for new arrivals.

In the event that Guests need to check in earlier or depart later than the above a half day rate payable directly to Mountain View Inn may apply.

GENERAL ROOM INFORMATION & COOKING:

It is kindly to be noted that all our units are open plan and are equipped for basic self-catering needs;

Open view TV is provided in all units;

The Nguni, Pondo and Aloe rooms each have their own fridge / freezer, kettle, coffee mugs & glasses however have access to a communal kitchen area which is well equipped with a variety of pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils, gas stoves, microwave etc. for cooking purposes.

In instances where Guests may prefer a bit more privacy it may be arranged by prior agreement that cooking may be done within the unit if more than 2 of the above mentioned units are booked out over the same period.

BREAKAGE / LOSS / THEFT DEPOSIT:

Especially in the case of the above mentioned (cooking in rooms), and in general, a refundable EFT deposit of R1, 000.00 due minimum one day prior to arrival MAY be requested. Refunds are processed via EFT to the Guests bank account within 7 days of departure. No cash refunds will be issued on departure. Group rates/fees and conditions may differ and will be quoted separately.

All missing items such as keys, blankets, scatter cushions, breakages in and damage to rooms, furniture, fittings, soft furnishings, roads, fencing, gardens, extras costs will be charged to the Guest. No dispute discussion regarding breakages or damage will be entertained unless a guest reports same within one hour of checking in. Where the value of loss or damage may be more than the deposit value requested Guests will be liable to settle Mountain View for the additional amount within a maximum period of 7 days of invoice after departure.

SMOKING:

No smoking is permitted in the apartments. Smoking is permitted on the deck area and in the gardens/outdoors.

SELF-CATERING:

As Mountain View Inn is a self-catering establishment please kindly remember to bring along your own bath / beach towels, toiletries, groceries etc.

Housekeeping / cleaning of rooms can be arranged with prior notice at an additional daily rate payable directly to Mountain View Inn.

PARKING / ACCESS / NOISE:

Only one vehicle is allowed per room and is parked at own risk. Should you need to bring more than one vehicle per room please do inquire about the availability of parking.

One set of keys per room is provided. The cost of replacement keys is R150.00 per key lost / not returned.

Rooms must be locked, windows closed and keys handed in prior to departure.

No external visitors will be permitted without permission. We do not accept any responsibility for any loss or damages.

Guests are asked to keep other guests in consideration at all times.

SECURITY & STORAGE:

Although the establishment takes reasonable steps to ensure the safety and security of guests and their possessions, guests retain final responsibility for their own safety and security. Please always keep rooms locked when not in use and retain all valuables.

The main entrance gate to the parking lot at Mountain View Inn is locked in the evenings and re-opened early in the mornings. If you will not be at the property before 21h00 in the evenings or need to leave earlier than 07h00 – 08h00 in the mornings please kindly make the relevant arrangements with the Owner.

BRAAI/FACILITIES & COMMON AREAS:

There are common areas at Mountain View Inn and we ask that guests keep other guests in consideration when using these areas. All areas are used at own risk and children always need to be under responsible adult supervision. Please do be considerate when it comes to noise levels. No loud music is permitted after 21h00 unless otherwise arranged with fellow Guests out courtesy and with prior consent of the Owner.

PERSONAL CONDUCT OF GUESTS:

Problems connected with abused substances such as drugs and alcohol will not be tolerated, and we respectfully request the “Booking Principle” to take ownership of the Personal Conduct of their guests.

We respectfully request guests to respect the neighbourhood, next door neighbours and other guests.

PLUMBING/ELECTRICS/POWER/WATER/GAS & ENVIRONMENT:

Please be considerate when it comes to the use of the plumbing, gas and electrics. We operate on a septic tank system - please do not through or flush any foreign items down any drains. Guests will be liable for any cost or damage as a result of this. Kindly switch of most lights when not in a room and ensure the outside lights for your apartment are switched off in the morning.

We operate on a gravity feed water system - please use water sparsely as we are in a water scarce area with water restrictions. Should the water pressure become low please turn off the taps and wait for a few minutes so that the gravity feed may be restored and water returned to pipe lines.

We respectfully request guests to respect our natural environment and wildlife and not to pollute, litter or disturb it.

If making use of gas for cooking please ensure that you switch off the gas correctly on the stove as well as on the gas bottle. If you are unsure of how to use a gas stove or need any assistance please consult with the Owner as soon as possible.

DANGEROUS ITEMS / SUBSTANCES:

No fireworks, dangerous materials/substances or weapons are allowed on property.

LOSS OR DAMAGE TO ESTABLISHMENT PROPERTY:

The guests are liable for any loss or damages (excluding wear and tear) to the property of the establishment.

GENERAL INCAPACITY:

This Establishment, its employees, representatives, subcontractors, agents, successors, cannot be held liable if any of the following events or conditions prevents us from fulfilling our obligation to guests. We will take all reasonable steps to minimize disruption and discomfort to guests under these conditions:

Unanticipated interruption to the electricity, water, sewage to, from or on the establishment’s property.

Industrial action, civil uprising or criminal activity.

Fire, frost, flooding, subsidence or any other force major event.

Government & Municipality local servicing, upgrades and actions.

Limited / erratic cellphone signal or internet connectivity.

The Right of Admission will apply.

The Camp Site does not form part of the Lodge and is a separate business with its own shareholders. The Camp Site facilities and those of the Lodge are for the specific use of the guests of each venue and there are no reciprocal rights between the two.

The campsite has no telephones at present, therefore bookings are made by lodge staff at Mbotyi River Lodge. This is simply done to assist the Campsite trust.

The Campsite opened on the 4th June 2002. The venue has electricity, water and 24 hour security. The property is fenced and provides safe, off-road parking. The Campsite has been left as natural as possible and the tent sites have been terraced for campers. It is advisable to book a site suitable for the size of the tent you wish to pitch.

• Three 6-sleeper PONDO HUTS. (1 x double bed, 2 x single beds and 1 x double bunk. Huts are equipped with fridge, tables and chairs.)
• Two 2-sleeper rooms. (One equipped with a double bed and the other with two single beds. Both rooms have their own fridge and cupboard.)

  Kindly note: the Campsite is not a self-catering facility.No crockery, cutlery or linen is provided, but is available for hire. It is however recommended that you bring your own.

• Kitchens:
  There are 8 kitchens (cookers and kettles are available to rent) with a wash-up area with hot and cold water. There is no additional charge for the use of the kitchens, they are for all campsite guests. 
• Ablutions:
  Spotless Gents and Ladies ablutions with hot and cold water.
• Dining Area:
  There is a covered dining area where guests can enjoy the beautiful sea view while having a meal. This area is for use by all guests at the campsite.
• Braai Area:
  There are braai areas around the campsite with their own light and three prong plug 220V power point.

Xanadu is a small family-orientated time share resort of 18 duplex chalets in beautiful Chintsa East on the Eastern Cape Coast near East London.

The natural beauty of the location, set in the dunes and indigenous coastal forest, provides views of the ocean and the lagoon from your deck or terrace, while your children explore nature or play in the recreation centre.

The Chalets are tucked into the dune and protected from most coastal wind, and looking Eastwards all chalets look towards the sunset, while many have a good view of the lagoon.

Many Xanadu time share holders have owned their weeks for more than 25 years, and take an active interest in keeping the resort enjoyable and affordable.

Eighteen (18) self-catering Mediterranean-style duplex chalets are each fully equipped for 6 people (incl. TV, towels and bedding), and have their own private patio with braai facilities. Each has an open-plan dining room come lounge (with two sleeper couches), and kitchen area located on the ground floor together with a downstairs master double bed and a bathroom. Upstairs is a another bedroom sleeping two and an en suite toilet.

The chalets are serviced daily.

The recreation centre boasts a sauna, a pool and a separate baby pool, table tennis, a pool table and a laundromat. Bicycles, canoes, boogy boards and surf boards will soon be available for the guests. Facilities are complementary for owners; other guests have to pay a small fee for the sauna and sports equipment.

The caretaker’s house (two bedrooms) is available on special request.

AmaMpondo are warm and welcoming people who traditionally live in huts. The old-style Xhosa huts were beehive-shaped. The center of the homestead was the "kraal" (a circular enclosure of interlaced poles or brushwood, or stone, in which the cattle were kept at night).

Great importance was attached to their cattle, which was the domain of the men who showed great devotion towards them. It places in perspective the great sacrifice the Xhosa made in carrying out the great cattle-killing episode following the Eighth Frontier War.

Built in the early 1900s the lodge was most probably the first hotel type accommodation on the Wild Coast.

Situated next to Haga-Haga, Club Wild Coast offers comfortable self-catering accommodation, wildlife adventures, horse riding, rock-angling and a golf course.

Nature Walks & Hiking Trails
A leisurely walk or follow a hiking trail  is a must for visitors to the area. The view from Whale/Dolphin Point is breath-taking and catch sightings of dolphins and whales at play. The indigenous game is undisturbed in their natural environment. The nature itself is as it was a 100 years ago.

Guests preferring the creature comforts of comfortable homely accommodation, Club Wild Coast Resort on Pullen's Bay offers three bedroom, self catering villas. Rooms include:

Golf
When planning your getaway to Club Wild Coast Resort on Pullen's Bay, all Golf enthusiast will be delighted to know that we have a golf course within the boundaries of the resort. At the end of the ninth hole, a refreshing drink will await you in the Club House, where meals are also available.

These two relatively small reserves, separated by the Mbashe River, are situated in the central Wild Coast.

Accommodation in Dwesa is provided in the form of self-catering chalets and a camp site. There are five 5-bed chalets and three 4-bed chalets. All of these chalets have gas refrigerators and stoves. The camp site has 20 stands and communal ablution facilities.

Accommodation in Cwebe is only available at the Haven Hotel.

The reserves are bordered on the one side by the Indian Ocean and on the other by rugged grasslands of the former Transkei. Both reserves are primarily covered by lowland forest but also support grasslands and acacia scrub. There are a total of 290 bird species recorded in the reserves, with at least a hundred to be found on a given visit. Being relatively under- birded, the number of known birds is ever increasing. Although a day will suffice in each reserve, at least three days is required/recommended to make the trip worthwhile.

The reserves remain relatively undeveloped with only footpaths giving access to the majority of areas. This lack of development means that the birdlife is prolific, with over 290 species recorded here. 

With both reserves being small, most places can be reached on foot. Care should however be taken that you can find your way out of the forests. There are a few trails that can be negotiated by 4x4 to shorten the walks.

Attractions
Although the two reserves are very similar in habitat and vegetation and support many of the same small mammals and birds, Dwesa also contains a number of introduced game species, including red hartebeest, blesbok and blue wildebeest. Crocodiles have been re-introduced to the rivers and buffalo, eland and warthog once again roam the grassland and forest fringes.

Dwesa:
Dwesa Nature Reserve is the bigger of the two reserves (3900ha) situated on the western side of the Mbashe River. There is a campsite and a few Chalets, beautifully situated adjacent a small estuary spilling into the ocean.

A blend of coastal forest, open grassland, winding rivers and a diverse coastline. Trails through lush forests make this a rambler's paradise. From the top of Kobole Point, there are magnificent views across the ocean where dolphins and whales are often seen.

The birdlife in this 3900-ha reserve includes such rarities as the Narina Trogon and Mangrove Kingfisher. A good selection of the forest specials should be easily located in and around the campsite and chalets. The best forest birding is done on the road to the reserve office. There is also a track leading north through the forest towards Mendu (ask at the Office for directions).

One should also walk through the grasslands around the office, where one can find Wailing Cisticola, Plainbacked Pipit, Broadtailed Warbler and Yellowthroated Longclaw. Look in the moist grassland around the estuary east of the campsite for Croaking Cisticola and a pair of Crowned Crane that frequent the area. Venturing further into Dwesa will take you to more extensive grasslands, especially around the Mendu estuary.

Note: The reserves are also Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) so fishing is only allowed in demarcated areas.

Silaka Nature Reserve covers a total of 400ha, featuring grassland and magnificent indigenous coastal forests along a dramatic piece of coastline.

This beautiful coastal reserve lies in a forested valley south of Port St Johns

, and stretches from Second Beach to Sugarloaf Rock.

Each of the self catering bungalows has a view of either the forest or ocean. You must bring your own provisions. Although the shops in Port St Johns will have everything you need, it is about 8km back to town.

Trails lead through the evergreen forest and provide the opportunity to view elusive birds such as Knysna Loerie, Cinnamon Dove and Grey Cuckooshrike. The Gxwaleni River flows through the forest and you should look out for Halfcollared Kingfisher and Longtailed Wagtail at fast flowing stretches. Giant forest trees are clad in mosses, lichens and epiphytic orchids, while lilies bloom on the forest floor. Blue Duiker and Bushbuck are indigenous to the forest but are secretive and seldom seen.

Facing the sea are grassy hills where the stately Aloe ferox blooms in winter. The Natal Red Rock Rabbit lives among boulders and introduced Blesbuck, Blue Wildebeest and Burchell's Zebra graze the palatable grasses.

The shoreline is very rugged, with a small sandy beach at the mouth of the Gxwaleni River, below the rest camp. Thickbilled Weaver and Yellowthroated Longclaw breed in the marsh, from where Cape Clawless Otters may venture onto the beach. A huge rocky outcrop, Bird Island, is just offshore and provides a resting place for Whitebreasted Cormorants and other birds. Interesting rock pools occur on the shore surrounding the island, which may be reached at low tide. At the estuary opposite Bird Island, an attractive pebble beach is surrounded by driftwood and aloes, which grow almost to the sea. Large stands of banana-like Strelitzia nicolai blanket some of the sea-facing slopes, where red-hot pokers and Flame Lilies bloom.

How to get there: From Port St Johns, follow the tar road towards the beach and look out for the sign to 'Second Beach Silaka' which turns to the right. Follow the signs from here over a bridge and up a steep hill to the reserve gate.

Anchorage Hotel is situated at the Umtata River Mouth, between Coffee Bay and Mdumbi, on the Wild Coast hiking trails.
