Wild Coast Sun
Sunday, 25 September, 2016 - 06:20

Less than a two hour scenic drive along the South Coast from Durban’s King Shaka International Airport, the Wild Coast Sun is a family-friendly resort that offers premium accommodation and leisure activities which include amongst the finest golf courses and water parks in South Africa.

The resort is set on 750 hectares of natural bush between two rivers overlooking the Indian Ocean. The area offers tourists and conference delegates a variety of attractions and activities – from walks along our unspoilt beaches to deep sea fishing and scuba diving.

The 18-hole golf course is ranked one of the top courses in Southern Africa. The scenery is magnificent, and the country club offers light lunches and a view of the sea and the 18th hole.

Visitors to the Wild Coast Sun can also be entertained at the Wild Waves Water Park, a family delight with rides suitable for all ages.

They come in all shapes and sizes, from the Aqua loop, which is a body slide, to the various speed slides- the tallest, fastest and steepest slides - and the lazy loop which is equivalent to sitting in a tube and floating gently round a circuit.

The Wild Coast Sun Resort is one of Southern Africa's oldest and most popular casinos. Located just 5 km south of Port Edward, the casino is within easy driving distance from many of the South Coast's beach resorts.

In addition to the normal slot machines there are also poker machines, blackjack tables and roulette wheels.

  • Slots are open 24/7
  • Casino tables open at 11:00.

The Wild Coast Sun is one of Sun International's most popular and exotic properties. The casino group's renowned for their string of casino and hotel complexes, but very few can match the setting of this one or the facilities it has to offer. The casino boasts the usual variety of slots and tables, with the Plantation Room providing a particularly opulent experience, with black jack and roulette tables alongside a smoking bar and great views of the property and the sea.

There is a range of restaurants too, from the fast food variety and light meal bistros to more formal seafood restaurants and steakhouses.

Umzimvubu Retreat
Thursday, 22 September, 2016 - 18:31

Surrounded by virgin forests and an unadulterated African landscape of mountains, river and ocean views, this well-maintained property consists of four adjoining houses and functions both as a guest house and self-catering establishment.

Set in immense, natural gardens with awe inspiring views of the Umzimvubu River, ocean, mountains and nearby golf course, the Umzimvubu Retreat Guest House is a family-run establishment and the owners/hosts, who reside on the property, are therefore always available to assist with any requirements.

They are renowned for their hospitality and willingness to accommodate whatever requests guests may make, whether it be special guided outings, dietary requirements or whatever. This attitude has also been instilled in the staff, who are exceptionally friendly and willing to assist.

The guestrooms are not particularly large, but are spotlessly clean and comfortably furnished.

The honeymoon suite, however, is enormous and offers all required amenities with awe inspiring views (even from the modern bathroom) and a fireplace in the well-appointed lounge.

The majority of the rooms have excellent views (you can actually watch whales from your room!) and have private entrances and patios where one can relax and enjoy the scenery and abundant birdlife, lulled by the sounds of the ocean.

There are numerous hiking trails to secluded waterfalls and spectacular stretches of beach in close proximity to the guest house make for an idyllic vacation.

Our a la carte menu is a fusion of French and Asian cuisine, prepared according to high standards and nicely presented. Overall the restaurant has an aura of understated elegance and sophistication without being overly formal. The prompt, friendly service provided by the hosts adds to the cosy atmosphere, making dinner a relaxed, memorable experience.
