Situated at the mouth of the Mbotyi River and tidal estuary is Mbotyi River Lodge. Nestled between the rolling hills, lush tropical forest and the warm Indian Ocean, it is the perfect venue for anyone looking for a peaceful and tranquil holiday or for the adventurer wanting to explore the many beautiful and wild treasures this coast has to offer. The upmarket rooms in the lodge consist of en-suite double and twin bedrooms in either wooden cabins or thatch bungalows.

In November 2009, I -- one of a group from Germany -- spent 2 nights each at Mbotyi and Wavecrest: that's 4 nights out of a total of 19 nights on a first trip to South Africa. Well worth it -- these are secluded oases for discerning travellers, hikers and nature lovers. You just have to be aware that they are there, and that there's much more to South Africa than Kruger National Park, the Garden Route and Cape Town. I am not sure that the Wild Coast is given enough visibility on the official tourism web sites.
Thanks for a great stay in South Africa, and for this part in particular!
