For the surf adventurer out there who is searching for un-crowded waves in rugged, unspoiled surroundings we offer the Transkei as an attractive destination. Situated between KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape, the Transkei is one of South Africa’s last untapped resources when it comes to surf travel. Transkei is for those who wish to escape from the cities and crowds and go exploring the many secluded coves, bays and points for good, quality surf.

Our Wild Coast accommodation is owned by Pro Surfer, Justin Sanders and is situated on the North side of the Mdumbi River.

The Guest Lodge sleeps 8 people:
2 – En-suite Rondavels – each with double beds.
2 – Dorm Style Rooms – separate bathrooms – two single beds in each.

PRICES PER NIGHT – Self Catering:-
Rondavels = R300 per night
(Each Ronnie sleeps two people – double bed – en-suite toilet & shower.)
Dorm Rooms = R250 per night
(Each Dorm Room sleeps two people – single beds – separate bathroom.) Prices will vary during seasons.

Mdumbi Backpackers is well integrated with their community, and most of the activities - such as kayaking around the islands on the beautiful Mdumbi Lagoon, horse riding and hiking trail guides, fishing, etc. - are directly run by the local villagers.

Surfing:
The Mdumbi point offers - five star, classic point break surf - rated 1 of the best in SA.
At its best, when the banks are on - expect a wave running for almost one kilometer.
